Bagging Isn’t Enough

You’ve seen it. We all have.

A neatly tied bag, sitting on the side of the path. Right where someone’s dog did what dogs do. The owner stopped. They pulled out a bag. They did the thing. And then they left.

That bag is not a solution. That bag is just the problem wearing a different outfit.

Bagged — but not binned. Step one without step two helps no one.

Step One Without Step Two

Picking it up matters. Nobody is arguing otherwise. But the job is not finished when the bag is tied — it is finished when the bag is in a bin.

A tied bag sitting on grass still ends up in the environment. It does not disappear. Birds tear into it. Rain moves it. Eventually it breaks down in exactly the same way it would have if it had never been picked up — except now it is wrapped in plastic too.

The people who leave bags behind are not villains. Most of them probably had every intention of coming back for it, or thought someone else would handle it, or simply did not plan ahead for where the bin was. But intention does not change the result.

Why This Keeps Happening

The most common reason? No bin nearby — and once the bag is tied, it is suddenly awkward to carry. A full bag is harder to pocket than an empty one, and if you are not carrying anything to put it in, it becomes a problem you set down and walk away from.

The fix is simpler than people think. A bag that is strong, ties off cleanly, and does not leak makes step two much less of an ordeal. The right doggie poo bag does its job without adding to the problem. The wrong one — flimsy, hard to knot, awkward — gives you an excuse to set it down and walk away.

What “Done” Actually Looks Like

Done is: bag tied, in a bin, walk continues.

Not: bag tied, left on the path, someone else’s problem.

If you are already doing the first part — and most dog owners are — the second part deserves the same care and follow-through.

Being Prepared Makes It Easier

Part of avoiding the “I will come back for it” moment is starting the walk ready. Know roughly where the bins are on your regular routes, and carry bags that are not a burden to hold once they have done their job.

Earth Rated lavender poop bags – the bags I use on every walk

A bag that is light and flat before the walk slips easily into a pocket when empty. That is the preparation side — and it is simple. The Earth Rated lavender bags in the Grab & Go box are what I reach for: grab two or three from the box at home, they go in the pocket flat and empty, and the walk begins properly equipped.
